The five-year-old brother of a girl who was beaten and starved to death by their mother brought food to her funeral so she would have enough to eat in heaven, it was revealed.

‘Monster mom’ Carlotta Brett-Pierce was found guilty of murder last month and sentenced to 32 years to life in prison yesterday.

Her four-year-old daughter Marchella died covered in bruises and open wounds and weighing only 19 pounds in September 2010. She was found drugged and beaten, tied to her SpongeBob SquarePants bed at the Brooklyn home.

Tragic: Marchella Brett-Pierce, four, was found dead in September 2010, tied to her bed with jump ropes in her Brooklyn home

The little girl, who was force-fed allergy pills, was often beaten in front of her brother Tymel.

Prosecutor Jacqueline Kagan revealed that Tymel, now seven, was deeply traumatized by the events he witnessed at home and still grieves for his sister.

When he attended her funeral, he had brought food with him so that he could help his sister.

Ms Kagan said: ‘He brought with him food because he knew she didn’t get enough. And he told his foster mother, ”I hope that she gets enough food and water in heaven,”’ according to the New York Post.

The month-long trial of Brett-Pierce, 32, in a Brooklyn court room finished quickly on May 9 with the jury requiring only one hour to deliberate over her guilt.

Defiant: Carlotta Brett-Pierce (center) as she was sentenced on Wednesday to 32 years to life in prison for the death of her daughter Marchella in 2010. Her mother Loretta was given up to 15 years for manslaughter

Self-pity: The mother has refused to take responsibility for the death of her daughter who was beaten and starved to death. Grandmother Loretta Brett (right) will also serve up to 15 years

When Marchella Brett-Pierce was found, she was tied to her bed with jump ropes, had been beaten, starved and drugged.

Prosecutors say she had dozens of marks and open wounds on her tiny body which was so emaciated, every rib could be seen.

Carlotta Brett-Pierce was emotionless when the jury proclaimed her guilty of her daughter Marchella’s death. Her punishment did not even stop her from giving the judge some attitude when asked if she understood.

‘I heard what you said,’ the 32-year-old said.

Abused: Marchella was born prematurely with breathing problems and died when she was four years old

Accomplice: The girl’s grandmother, Loretta Pierce, will serve up to 15 years for manslaughter

She has refused to accept blame for the death of her daughter, blaming the jurors, lawyers and the press for her murder conviction, calling it a ‘tragedy’.

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Patricia DiMango said yesterday: ‘This child, at her tender age, was subjected to a hell that no one should have to endure.

‘What kind of person could do this to a child, let alone their own child?’ she said, according to DNAinfo.com

During the trial, Brett-Pierce’s answers painted a ghastly picture of their home life.

She said of her daughter near the time of her September 2010 death: ‘To me, at the time, it didn’t look bad.’

Brett-Pierce said that her daughter lost weight by running around in the heat and sustained the bruises from falling in the stairway.

Judge DiMango also sentenced grandmother Loretta Brett to five to 15 years in prison for manslaughter in the death.

Throughout the trial, her lawyers switched between disproving the prosecutions tales of horrific beatings and arguing that Brett-Pierce was an overwhelmed mother with a sick daughter that she didn’t know how to care for.

Marchella spent the first three-and-a-half years of her life in hospital after she was born prematurely with severe breathing difficulties.

Her mother admitted on the stand that in the seven months she was in her care, she never took the four-year-old to a pediatrician.

Gruesome: The tiny bed which the four-year-girl was tied to and starved in removed from the home in Brooklyn

A prosecutor showed the mother a doctor’s note indicating that her youngest boy weighed 18 pounds at nine months – roughly the same weight as four-year-old Marchella when she died.

She told the court she fed her daughter ‘potato chips, fried chicken and cheese doodles’, but an autopsy recorded that only a single corn kernel was found in her body, along with a high level of antihistamines.

Marchella should have been on a specialized diet and fed through a tube, which prosecutors say the mother totally ignored, instead feeding her junk food.

Unrepentant: Brett-Pierce will serve 32 years to life in prison for the murder of her daughter

During questioning she denied certain things she had already told police and called Marchella ‘my baby’ as opposed to ‘that b***h’ – which she was heard calling her in a recorded jail conversation played for the jury saying: ‘That b***h wasn’t that f***ing light.’

When she was released from hospital seven months before her death, she weighed 26lbs- a stark contrast from her final weight of 18.9 pounds.

The Administration for Children’s Services became involved with the family after Brett Pierce gave birth to a boy who tested positive for drugs.

Two social workers from ACS who had involvement in Marchella’s case were charged separately with criminally negligent homicide for failing to prevent the tragic death.

Damon Adams and Chereece Bell were both charged with criminally negligent homicide, official misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child. Their case is due to begin.

STOP! Your MICROWAVE is KILLING YOU!!!???

Published November 20, 2013 by Lena Say What!!!???

Consumers are dying today in part because they continue to eat dead foods that are killed in the microwave. They take a perfectly healthy piece of raw food, loaded with vitamins and natural medicines, then nuke it in the microwave and destroy most of its nutrition. Humans are the only animals on the planet who destroy thenutritional value of their food before eating it. All other animals consume food in its natural, unprocessed state, but humans actually go out of their way to render food nutritionally worthless before eating it. No wonder humans are the least healthy mammals on the planet.

In Russia, microwave ovens were banned in 1976 because of their negative health consequences as many studies were conducted on their use. The ban was lifted after Perestroika in the early 90’s. Numerous documents can be found online relating to this topic.

The invention of the microwave and its mass adoption by the population coincides with the onset of obesity in developed nations around the world. Not only did the microwave make it convenient to eat more obesity-promoting foods, it also destroyed much of the nutritional content of those foods, leaving consumers in an ongoing state of malnourished overfeeding. In other words, people eat too many calories but not enough real nutrition. The result is, of course, what we see today: Epidemic rates of diabetes, cancer, heart disease, depression, kidney failure, liver disorders and much more.

These diseases are all caused by a combination of malnutrition and exposure to toxic chemicals (plus other factors such as emotional trauma, lack of exercise, etc.). Microwaves make malnutrition virtually automatic, and being exposed to toxic chemicals is easy to accomplish by simply eating processed foods (which are universally manufactured with the addition of toxic chemicals that act as preservatives, colorings, flavor enhancers and so on).

Picture
Microwaving is, technically, a form of food irradiation. I find it interesting that people who say that would never eat “irradiated” food have no hesitation about microwaving their food. It’s the same thing (just a different wavelength of radiation). In fact, microwaves were originally called “radar ranges.” Sounds strange today, doesn’t it? But when microwaves were first introduced in the 1970′s, they were proudly advertised as radar ranges. You blast your food with high-intensity radar and it gets hot. This was seen as some sort of space-age miracle in the 1970′s. Perhaps someday an inventor will create a food heating device that does not radically alter the nutritionalvalue of the foods in the process, but I’m not holding my breath on this one. Probably the best way to heat foods right now is to simply use a countertop toaster oven, and keep the heat as low as possible. The microwave does work as advertised, by the way. It makes your food hot. But the mechanism by which heat is produced causes internal damage to the delicate molecular structures of vitamins and phytonutrients. Minerals are largely unaffected, however, so you’ll still get the same magnesium, calcium and zinc in microwaved foods as you would in non-microwaved foods, but the all-important B vitamins, anthocyanins, flavonoids and other nutritional elements are easily destroyed by microwave ovens.

The microwave is the appliance of the living dead. People who use the microwave on a regular basis are walking down a path towards degenerative disease and a lifelong battle with obesity. The more you use the microwave, the worse your nutritional state gets, and the more likely you are to be diagnosed with various diseases and put on pharmaceuticals which, of course, will create other health problems that lead to a grand spiraling nosedive of health.

Do yourself a favor: Toss your microwave, or donate it to some charity. It’s much easier to avoid using the microwave if you don’t have one around. It will clear up counter space, save you electricity and greatly enhance your dietary habits. When you need to heat something, heat it in a toaster oven or a stovetop pan (avoid Teflon and non-stick surfaces, of course). Better yet, strive to eat more of a raw, unprocessed diet. That where you’ll get the best nutrition anyway. Buy yourself a Vita-Mix and blend up some smoothies. It’s faster than microwaving foods are far healthier. (See my book Superfood Smoothies for recipes).

I drink a superfood smoothie every morning, and I haven’t used a microwave in years. Protecting health is our own responsibility, and it’s up to us all to make informed decisions about how we buy, prepare and consume our foods. You have to save yourself.

Here are some of recent scientific findings on microwaving food:1. Microwaved foods lose 60 ~ 90% of the vital-energy field and microwaving accelerates the structural disintegration of foods.

2. Microwaving creates cancer-causing agents within milk and cereals.

3. Microwaving alters elemental food-substances, causing digestive disorders.

4. Microwaving alters food chemistry which can lead to malfunctions in the lymphatic system and degeneration of the body’s ability to protect itself against cancerous growths.

5. Microwaved foods lead to a higher percentage of cancerous cells in the bloodstream.

6. Microwaving altered the breakdown of elemental substances when raw, cooked, or frozen vegetables were exposed for even a very short time and free radicals were formed.

7. Microwaved foods caused stomach and intestinal cancerous growths, a general degeneration of peripheral cellular tissues, and a gradual breakdown of the digestive and excretive systems in a statistically high percentage of people.

8. Microwaved foods lowered the body’s ability of the body to utilize B-complex vitamins, Vitamin C,Vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotropics.

9. The microwave field next to a microwave oven caused a slew of health problems as well.

10. Heating prepared meats in a microwave sufficiently for human consumption created:
* d-Nitrosodiethanolamine (a well-known cancer-causing agent)
* Destabilization of active protein biomolecular compounds
* Creation of a binding effect to radioactivity in the atmosphere.
* Creation of cancer-causing agents within protein-hydrosylate compounds in milk and cereal grains.

11. Microwave emissions also caused alteration in the catabolic (breakdown) behaviour of glucoside – and galactoside – elements within frozen fruits when thawed in this way.

12. Microwaves altered catabolic behavior of plant-alkaloids when raw, cooked or frozen vegetables were exposed for even very short periods.

13. Cancer-causing free radicals were formed within certain trace-mineral molecular formations in plant substances, especially in raw root vegetables.

14. Due to chemical alterations within food substances, malfunctions occurred in the lymphatic system, causing degeneration of the immune systems’ capacity to protect itself against cancerous growth.

15. The unstable catabolism of micro-waved foods altered their elemental food substances, leading to disorders in the digestive system.

16. Those ingesting micro-waved foods showed a statistically higher incidence of stomach and intestinal cancers, plus a general degeneration of peripheral cellular tissues with a gradual breakdown of digestive and excretory system function.

17. Microwave exposure caused significant decreases in the nutritional value of all foods studied, particularly:
* A decrease in the bioavailability of B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotrophics
* Destruction of the nutritional value of nucleoproteins in meats
* Lowering of the metabolic activity of alkaloids, glucosides, galactosides and nitrilosides (all basic plant substances in fruits and vegetables)
* Marked acceleration of structural disintegration in all foods.

Mike from Natural News.com says,
On Microwaves:
“The rise of widespread nutritional deficiencies in the western world correlates almost perfectly with the introduction of the microwave oven. This is no coincidence. Microwave ovens heat food through a process of creating molecular friction, but this same molecular friction quickly destroys the delicate molecules of vitamins and phytonutrients (plant medicines) naturally found in foods. One study showed that microwaving vegetables destroys up to 97% of the nutritional content (vitamins and other plant-based nutrients that prevent disease, boost immune function and enhance health).”“In other words, eating raw broccoli provides you with natural anti-cancer medicine that’s extremely effective at halting the growth of cancer tumours. But microwaving that broccoli destroys the anti-cancer nutrients, rendering the food “dead” and nutritionally depleted. There’s even some evidence to suggest that microwaving destroys the natural harmony in water molecules, creating an energetic pattern of chaos in the water found in all foods. In fact, the common term of “nuking” your food is coincidentally appropriate: Using a microwave is a bit like dropping a nuclear bomb on your food, then eating the fallout. (You don’t actually get radiation from eating microwaved foods, however. But you don’t get much nutrition, either.)”So. if you are going to use a microwave oven, it is suggested that you set and walk out of the kitchen where practical. The American FDA advised “don’t stand in front of a microwave for long periods of time”. There is a lot of researching being conducted into microwave oven and the effects that it may have on human bodies. Final studies have not been released as yet, but if the above is any indication to the negative affects on food, I can only imagine the effects on the human body. So if you don’t have to use a microwave oven, then don’t. Even if it is to preserve the quality and nutritional value of your food.”

Do you and your family a huge life saving favor, throw away the microwave!.

UPDATE: Affects of The FUKUSHIMA Power Plant is HERE!!!???

Affects of The FUKUSHIMA Power Plant is HERE!!!???

If you’re concerned about radiation from the damaged nuclear plant in Fukushima, Japan, reaching the United States, you’re not alone.
That concern has prompted California-based FukushimaResponse to declare Saturday a “global Day of Recognition” to help people all over the world realize “that radioactive contamination from Fukushima threatens life everywhere,” as stated at fukushimaishere.info.
People will form a human mural spelling out the words “Fukushima is here” at 11 a.m. Saturday morning on San Francisco’s Ocean Beach. Their message will be photographed from the air.
The group hopes to begin a “public discussion of the grave threat we face in the massive amounts of radioactive contamination released into the air and leaking into the sea every day since three reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant exploded in March 2011.”
“We need to start demanding that our elected officials and agencies do what is necessary to test the water we drink, the air we breathe, the food we eat,” the group’s website states.
FukushimaResponse describes itself in a press release as “a group of concerned Sonoma County residents who have been meeting regularly for two years, working together to understand, inform others and lobby elected officials for action in response to the ongoing threat of Fukushima contamination.”
Indeed, as the group’s press release and website states, the situation at Fukushima has been getting worse, not better. “Uncontrolled releases of steam, an inundation of radioactive groundwater, more contaminated water to keep three melted cores cool, and massive leaks of radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean that have apparently been going since the beginning of the disaster” continue to plague cleanup efforts.
In spite of these grim realities, Jina Brooks, coordinator of the human mural event, doesn’t want to come across as alarmist. She just wants people to know what is happening. “Organizing people to spell our message is not meant to spread fear and panic,” she said. “It’s more like Paul Revere’s ride, citizens trying to alert other citizens to a real danger on the horizon. My heart breaks when I think of what mothers must be experiencing in Japan.”
Japan is in the midst of dealing with another deadly storm this week.
Typhoon Wipha, which the Telegraph described as the most powerful typhoon to hit Japan in 10 years, killed at least 14 people Thursday.
Even as Japan deals with damage from the typhoon, Toyko Electric Power Co. is entering an extremely critical phase of the cleanup from the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami that crippled the Fukushima nuclear plant and killed some 18.500 people. For more than two years, TEPCO has struggled to minimize the danger from the damaged nuclear facility and has been widely criticized for its ineffectual response.
With more than 1,500 fuel rods sitting in a damaged storage pool inside the shell of the reactor 4 building, TEPCO is about to begin the delicate task of removing the rods and relocating them to another storage pool, Voice of America reported. VOA said the fuel rods have to remain submerged and must not touch each other or break – nuclear experts say an accident could cause an explosion many times worse than in March 2011.
Meanwhile, the International Olympic Committee said Wednesday that radiation levels in Tokyo and surrounding areas are safe and that it expects that to be the case as well during the 2020 Summer Olympics scheduled in Tokyo, Japan Daily Press reported.

Mother Drowns Three Children and Gives Birth while Incarcerated!!!???

A Long Island mom who admitted to drowning her three children has given birth to a fourth while incarcerated.

NBC New York reports that Leatrice Brewer, 33, was impregnated at the Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center in New Hampton where she’s been locked up since admitting to drowning her three kids in a bathtub in 2008.

The center refused to comment, citing privacy laws, and it remains unclear who the father of Brewer’s child is or how she was able to get pregnant at the secure facility, according to NBC New York.

Attorney Tom Foley, who represents the father of two of Brewer’s deceased children, called her pregnancy “outrageous”.

“This person’s supposedly in a secure facility and she gets pregnant,” Foley said. “This is the woman who had no idea what she was doing when she murdered her children.”

The Associated Press reported last week that Brewer, who was found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, is also seeking a cut of $350,000 won by the fathers of her children in wrongful death lawsuits.

Psychiatrists who evaluated Brewer said she had a major depressive disorder and likely killed her children because she wanted to save them from the deadly effects of voodoo, according to the AP.

Shortly after she killed her children, Brewer attempted suicide, first by swallowing a combination of cleaning products and then by jumping out of a two-story window.

Scientists uses 3D Printer to Make Human Cells!!!???

Thanks to new advances in science, living tissue-like material can now be processed–and may one day be able to be used to save lives.
According to new findings released Thursday in the journal “Science,” British scientists have created a custom 3D printer that can make a material that is a close facsimile to human tissue.
The tissue-like substance consists of thousands of connected water droplets encapsuled within lipid films that can act out some of the functions of human cells. With the construction of this tissued substance, scientists are speculating that, with some fine tuning, the material could one day be used to deliver drugs to the body or even replace the damaged tissue in living human organs.

The study was led by Hagan Bayley of Oxford University.
“The great thing about these droplets is that they use pretty much exclusively biological materials,” study co-author and University of Oxford researcher Gabriel Villar told the L.A. Times.
The printer works by using a micropipette to squeeze out droplets in exact orders. Researchers were able to generate networks of up to 35,000 droplets. But in doing so, Villar pointed out, scientists were able to discover more about the material–and what they found surprised them.
“What we didn’t really expect was that once we could print these droplets out and eject them en masse and assemble them into different geometries, the collection of droplets behaved not just as a loose aggregate of objects but really as a cohesive material, and that kind of changed our thinking throughout the work,” Villar said.
The scientists have also been able to make more than one kind of droplet using their multinozzle printer, and have been able to incorporate an arc of droplets conducive to electricity into a network of insulating droplets.
The result? Scientists have been able to mimic the behavior of a human nerve fiber, thanks to this latest creation. While the lipid bilayers surrounding droplets are five times bigger than living cells, they are still biocompatible, which opens the doorways for the possibility of turning them into nerve pathways for the body if protein channels can be placed into the layers.
Villar told Chemical and Engineering News that these new printed scaffolds could create new possibilities in the field of tissue engineering. One of them is to load cells into the droplets while in the printing phase in order to create living tissue.
Christopher S. Chen, a bioengineer at the University of Pennsylvania, added that the study “extends 3-D printing to a new class of materials,” although he remains uncertain of the networks’ uses in tissue engineering due to the fact that Bayley’s team has yet to show a full demonstration.

Hurricane Sandy’s Death Toll reaches 50!!!???

During a visit to the Red Cross headquarters in Washington, D.C., this afternoon, Obama sent a very clear message to federal agencies.
“Do not figure out why we can’t do something. I want you to figure out how we do something,” the president said. “I want you to cut through red tape. I want you to cut through bureaucracy. There’s no excuse for inaction at this point. I want every agency to lean forward and to make sure that we are getting the resources where they need — where they’re needed as quickly as possible.”
The president said mayors and governors who run into any trouble can call him directly at the White House. He praised the heroic efforts of rescuers and helpful community members, but emphasized that recovery is going to take some time.
“It is not going to be easy for a lot of these communities to recover swiftly, and so it is going to be important that we sustain that spirit of resilience, that we continue to be good neighbors for the duration until everybody is back on their feet,” Obama said.
Among the hardest hit were New Jersey and New York, where public transportation was shut down, millions lost power and storm surges swamped cars, homes, businesses and boardwalks.
But in the wake of the devastation, states are beginning to make moves toward comebacks.
In New York, the New York Stock Exchange is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday after being closed for an unprecedented two days. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was scheduled to ring the opening bell.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the area’s airports and bridges, said it plans to have two major airports — John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens, N.Y., and Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey — open Wednesday morning at 7 a.m. with limited service. However, LaGuardia Airport in New York City will remain closed amid flooding on the tarmac and other damage.
Public transportation in the city also screeched to a halt as the subway system, rail yards and bus depots were flooded in what officials called the biggest disaster of its 108 years in existence.
“The New York City subway system … has never faced a disaster as devastating as what we experienced last night,” MTA Chairman Joe Lhota said in a statement.
All bridges into Manhattan were reopened today and limited bus service was to resume this evening — though the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel remained submerged beneath floods. The Holland Tunnel also remained closed though the Lincoln Tunnel was reopened early Tuesday.
Officials hoped to have power restored to New York in two to three days and aim to have the subways running in three to four days, Bloomberg said.
It will take about a week for PATH trains between New Jersey and New York to resume service.
“This was a devastating storm, maybe the worst that we have ever experienced,” Bloomberg said at a news conference today.

Mars is Much Like Hawaii!!!???

The first-ever in-depth analysis of Martian dirt reveals a mineralogical makeup similar to that of Hawaiian volcanic soils, researchers announced Tuesday.
The results come from NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity, which recently studied a scoop of Red Planet dirt with its Chemistry and Mineralogy instrument, or CheMin, for the first time.
“This Martian soil that we’ve analyzed on Mars just this past week appears mineralogically similar to some weathered basaltic materials that we see on Earth,” David Bish, a CheMin co-investigator with Indiana University, told reporters. He cited as an example the “weathered soils on the flanks of Mauna Kea in Hawaii.”
CheMin is one of 10 science instruments that Curiosity is using to determine if its Gale Crater landing site could ever have supported microbial life. CheMin studies soil and powdered rock samples using a technique called X-ray diffraction, which reads the structure of minerals by interpreting how X-rays bounce off of them.

X-ray diffraction is standard practice for geologists here on Earth, but Curiosity is the first robot ever to employ it on another planet, researchers said. The mission team had to shrink the necessary gear from the size of a refrigerator down to that of a shoebox to get CheMin to fit on the car-size rover, which landed on Mars in August.
“We can tell you, first of all, what minerals are present, and secondly, how much of each mineral is there,” said CheMin principal investigator David Blake, of NASA’s Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. “So it’s really the first full-up quantitative instrument for doing this work on Mars.”
CheMin’s first results — obtained using soil Curiosity scooped at a site called “Rocknest” — aren’t terribly surprising, researchers said.
“Much of Mars is covered with dust, and we had an incomplete understanding of its mineralogy,” Bish said in a statement. “We now know it is mineralogically similar to basaltic material, with significant amounts of feldspar, pyroxene and olivine, which was not unexpected. Roughly half the soil is non-crystalline material, such as volcanic glass or products from weathering of the glass.”
The sample contains at least two components: particles distributed globally by Martian dust storms and sand that appears to have originated locally, in Gale Crater. In contrast to the conglomerate rocks Curiosity discovered a month or so ago, there is no evidence of strong interaction with liquid water in the Rocknest sample, researchers said.
“So far, the materials Curiosity has analyzed are consistent with our initial ideas of the deposits in Gale Crater recording a transition through time from a wet to dry environment,” Bish said. “The ancient rocks, such as the conglomerates, suggest flowing water, while the minerals in the younger soil are consistent with limited interaction with water.”
Next up
Curiosity has been at Rocknest for about a month. During this time, the $2.5 billion rover has been gearing up for its first scooping activities and preparing to use CheMin and its Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instrument for the first time.
Like CheMin, SAM sits on Curiosity’s body and analyzes samples dropped in by the rover’s 7-foot-long (2.1 meters) robotic arm. SAM can identify organic compounds, the carbon-containing building blocks of life as we know it.
The first SAM soil results should come in soon, mission scientists said.
“We hope to be at this location for about another week, and today we will begin the uplinking process for the part of the experiment that feeds the sample eventually to the SAM instrument,” said Curiosity lead scientist John Grotzinger, of Caltech in Pasadena. “About a week or 10 days from now, we should be getting data back from the conclusion of that.”
SAM has already been sniffing the Martian atmosphere for traces of methane, a gas that is commonly produced by living organisms here on Earth. The mission team isn’t ready to announce any results from this activity yet but should be soon.
“Stay tuned,” Grotzinger said.
While at Rocknest, Curiosity has also been studying Red Planet rocks with some of its cameras and other instruments.
For example, last week the rover blasted a miniature system of natural arches — dubbed “Stonehenge” by some mission team members — with the laser on its ChemCam instrument. ChemCam determines mineral composition by analyzing the vaporized bits this laser produces.
Curiosity landed inside Gale Crater on Aug. 5. Its main destination is the base of Mount Sharp, the 3.4-mile-high (5.5 km) mountain rising from the crater’s center. Mars-orbiting spacecraft have spotted signs that Mount Sharp’s foothills were exposed to liquid water long ago.
These interesting deposits lie about 6 miles (10 km) from Curiosity’s landing site. Scientists want the rover to perform its first drilling activity at or near Rocknest, but Curiosity should start heading toward Mount Sharp when that’s done — perhaps around the end of the year, Grotzinger has said.
